 Protel have provided fieldwork services for over 30 projects for First Group over the last 3 years, in conjunction with jgmrc research.
This recent project was designed to identify the traveling habits amongst students of Sheffield Hallam and the University of Sheffield. The results identified the types and regularity of journeys made, and more specifically the students’ awareness and opinions of local bus services. Using quotas, the research also identified the differences in the travel habits of students across 1st/2nd/3rd years of study and post-graduate.
The fieldwork period coincided with exam week for Sheffield Hallam students making recruitment inevitably difficult. Through the local area knowledge of our supervisors, we were able to provide our interviewers with additional information to help them successfully locate and recruit students.
Despite the obvious difficulties of carrying out research amongst students during exam week (beyond our control), Protel’s determined and committed interviewers achieved all of the quotas within the fieldwork timescales.
