This is an ongoing annual project commissioned by the British Dental Health Foundation. Through this research we assessed peoples’ awareness and perceptions of dental health. The project was initially commissioned to coincide with the launch of Smile Week, an initiative aimed at raising the profile of dental health and hygiene.
An interview conducted by telephone covered all aspects of oral hygiene, from asking respondents how often they change their toothbrush, to what is the most unusual thing they have ever picked their teeth with!
1000 consumers were interviewed across 10 geographical areas in the UK, with 100 interviews conducted in each area. Within each geographical area an equal spread of age, gender and social classification was required.
CATI was used to achieve the interviews, with telephone numbers selected at random from telephone directories.
Random selection from telephone directories is a notoriously difficult way to recruit respondents as the directories are very often out of date. However, Protel achieved all of the required quotas on time and to budget.

“Protel were extremely helpful in designing and implementing a telephone survey for our National Smile Week. They were rapid, efficient and really easy to work with. We will definitely use their services again.”
